Housing and the Built Environment Initially set up to respond to the first Totnes and Dartington Development Plan Document (DPD) consultation in 2007, the Forum worked with Totnes Town Council to develop the Joint community response document, “Totnes, the Next Decade”. When South Hams decided to delay the Totnes DPD in June 2008, the group decided to remain together to coordinate views on planning and other issues connected to housing and the built environment. The Forum has representatives from ten local organisations including Transition Town Totnes, TotSoc, the Chamber of Commerce, Totnes and District Preservation Trust, Dartington Against Detrimental Development and Friends of the Earth.
Totnes DPD – consultation June 2010 The consultation period for the latest version of the DPD runs until 2nd July 2010. Totnes Town Council and the Strategy Group’s Housing and Built Environment Forum are again coordinating a joint response Full details of the DPD proposals and accompanying documents can be found on the SHDC website (www.southhams.gov.uk). An exhibition outlining the DPD proposals can be viewed at the Guildhall between 10.00am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, and anyone wishing to contribute their views can do so there or via the Town Council (clerk@totnestowncouncil.gov.uk). The views previously expressed by local people and groups in 2007 can be found in Totnes: the Next Decade (click to read) A Community Focus Group convened by SHDC subsequently reviewed the feedback received by SHDC and produced a report in May 2008: Report of the Community Focus Group (click to read). Some 30 community representatives attended an Enquiry by Design Day with the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment in June 2009 as part of the preparation of the DPD. That group has reviewed the outline proposals produced by SHDC. Their conclusions can be read by clicking on Notes of EbD Group Meeting February 2010. These documents, plus new feedback from a public meeting held in May 2010, group responses to the new DPD or other views expressed via the Town Council, will form the basis for the joint response to SHDC, which will be published on this website when completed.
Baltic Wharf Following the rejection by SHDC’s Development Control Committee of a scheme to redevelop Baltic Wharf proposed by owners TQ9, a small group of community representatives (G4BW), including Tony Whitty of Totnes Town Council, was set up to work with TQ9 to try to find a new way forward which would be more acceptable to local people. Their conclusions can be read here (click to read). |
