Traffic and Transport Forum

The Totnes Traffic and Transport Forum (T&TF) acts as a unifying forum for discussion and action on issues relating to traffic and transport in Totnes and the surrounding area. Its aims are:

  • to work towards establishing an environmentally sustainable traffic and transport solution for Totnes and District,
  • to bring together a diverse range of individuals and groups to discuss all aspects of traffic and transport,
  • to co-ordinate research in order to improve information and knowledge relating to traffic,
  • to advocate improvements, on behalf of the community, to traffic and transport policy and infrastructure.

Meetings are public and membership is open to everyone. Current membership includes individuals, representatives of local community groups and elected representatives on County, District, Town and Parish Councils. The Forum does not make decisions on behalf of the community: on occasions it will consult the wider community on issues within its remit and report or make recommendations based upon the results.

In 2010 the Town Council adopted the T&TF as a formal advisory body and in June 2011 appointed Cllr. Mike Craddock as its representative on the T&TF.

The T&TF is also an affiliated working group of both the Totnes Community Strategy Group and Transition Town Totnes. It acts according to a minimal constitution (as adopted at the 2010 AGM and modified at the 2011 AGM) which permits resolution of disputes by a vote among accepted member community groups (listed on the Resources page of the Forum website: www.transitiontowntotnes.org/groups/transport and below) although, in practice, this procedure has never yet been required. There are currently 9 voting member groups and 92 individual members on the mailing list.
